The definition of the word conviction is: “A fixed or firm belief.” I have a deeply held conviction regarding life. My conviction that is unmovable and firmly implanted in my innermost being is; that life begins at conception, no matter how life was conceived. A further development of my firmly held conviction is that life, once conceived, should be allowed to live until the giver of life determines the natural end to that life. I can discuss with any person my belief system that is rooted in my worldview. This matter should not have to be debated and would not be debated had the Supreme Court not injected their secular worldview upon the moral issue of life with their ruling known as Roe v. Wade. From that ruling forward, our nation has been involved in the taking of life under the guise of choice and some vague concept of personal rights of the living, but not the personal rights of the unborn.
When I express my conviction regarding life, I am quickly dismissed by some people as closed minded and backward in my thinking. Call me what you will; that does not move me from my personal conviction regarding life. This issue has been talked, debated, vetted, high jacked, demonized, and super spiritualized since the Supreme Court ruling. In recent years, we have seen this issue taken to the hideous extreme with something called “partial birth abortion.” When this extreme method is used, a child can be at the point of birth and have their life taken from them, once again, under the guise of choice of those already born. There has even been evidence that some children have been born and yet allowed to die outside the womb because of the choice of others.
So then, we are to believe that choice trumps life. The innocent children (human beings) who cannot as yet speak for or defend themselves are determined to be a blob of tissue and under the total control and choice of others. Many people want to talk about the health of the mother as if that is to be the final issue in determining the taking of another life. With my deeply held conviction, there are people who insist that I am trying to force my thinking on others. It seems to me that at some point the opposite is true in that someone who makes a decision to abort a child is forcing their worldview and choice upon an innocent human being who is not allowed the choice to live.
We have now come in this debate in our nation to the point of realizing that abortion is a major money maker for some organizations who insist they are really concerned about health issues. This argument is proving more obvious all the time to be phony. When we follow the money trail we realize that the bottom line is really the issue and not health or life issues. I passionately believe life is precious no matter how that life was conceived.
